GHMC Prepares for Slugfest

HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC), Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) and South Central Railway (SCR) have made elaborate arrangements for the ensuing Ganesh immersion in the city today.

GHMC has made arrangements for filling up of potholes, road recarpeting and lifting up of garbage along the 227-kilometre nimarjjanam route. As many as 122 Ganesh Action Teams (GAT) with 2,856 workers have been formed to facilitate immersion in a smooth manner. GAT teams are provided with sanitary supervisors, sanitary field assistants and 21 workers have been deployed every three to four kilometres along the stretch.

The teams will work in two shifts to facilitate immediate clearance of waste and garbage from 230 points, identified by the corporation. Every circle has been provided with one JCB and four vehicles for the same.

Towards this, GHMC Commissioner Somesh Kumar along with senior officials from various wings of the corporation, inspected immersion arrangements at Balapur, Charminar, Chandrayangutta, Begum Bazar, MJ Market, Abids and Basheerbagh, which are part of the main procession route.

In addition to this, 19 toilets will be arranged at all important junctions along the procession route.  “Regular toilets can also be used by citizens for free on immersion day,” the commissioner said.

Meanwhile, the HMWS&SB plans to place 101 water camps along the procession route. As many as 11 nodal officers have been appointed to attend to any water and sewage related issues.

Eight Special MMTS Trains

Towards clearing extra rush of passengers, SCR will run eight special MMTS trains between various destinations in Hyderabad and Secunderabad in the intervening night of Monday and Tuesday.

Water for Devout

  • 101 water camps being arranged along procession routes
  • Nearly 30 lakh water sachets to be distributed
  • Desilting works taken up to clear clogged sewer lines
