Ever purchased a wrong shade of make up product for your skin, and regretted later. This holiday season we give you a basic set of guidelines to help you pick the right shade make up for your skin. Who wouldn’t want to look flawless and beautiful for the New-year bash!

Choosing the right lipstick

This is the cherry on top of a cake. Colours like brown, cinnamon, coral look amazing on cool tone/fair people, they can carry off these colours easily. Warm toned people with brown and yellow undertones should try red, maroon, plum pinks berry pinks.

These colours play really well with caramel complexion.

Be your own judge

Don’t let the sales girl sell you stuff that is not moving out of the shelf by convincing you with faulty claims. The first step is to find out if you are warm toned or a cool toned person.

Fair people fall in the cool toned category and people with yellow/brown under tones fall in the warm category. The other way is to judge your skin tone is to look at the veins of your hand -- if they are blue then you are cool toned. If the veins look green you are warm toned.

Choosing the right blush

Warm toned people should choose cool toned blushes the opposite of what one is.

Colours like tones of pinks, blush colours should pop against the skin colour and enhance the cheeks. Cool toned people should use a warm coloured blush such as peach, orange undertones, red and so on.

Choosing the right Contour colour

The latest trend in the makeup world is contouring, it makes a face look chiseled and well defined. One needs to choose the right contouring colour so that the finish is not patchy and muddy.

Contours should be same colour of your skin. A warm, golden skin-coloured person should pick a light yellowish brown with a tiny red undertone as your contour powder.

Fair colour people should choose a purple and pink undertones colour like a soft grey or beige.

Choosing the Right Highlight

Highlighting powders or creams are used to attract the highest points of your face like the cheek bones, the brows, corner of your eyes the cupids bow. Warm toned people should choose a golden, champagne colour highlight since that shows more evidently on the skin. Whereas cool toned people should opt for silver, pearl and opal colours as their highlight.

Choosing the right foundation

It should be the same as your skin tone, one that matches your skin in the daylight. Yellow/ golden colour foundations work well with warm coloured undertones. Ivory and beige are colours for the fair and cool toned people. Neutral is for people who are on the border line of both warm and cool. Many makeup brands name their products W=warm C=cool N=neutral, making it easier to pick the right colour.
