French Keen on Funding City Water Projects

HYDERABAD:  A French delegation has expressed interest in funding drinking water and sewerage projects proposed to be taken up by the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) to strengthen the water distribution network system in Greater Hyderabad.

The 35-member French delegation on urban infrastructure development which arrived in the city last week held discussions with the HMWS&SB officials regarding the drinking water and sewerage projects planned to be taken up in near future.

The proposals include laying of circular pressure main stretching all along the 160 km Outer Ring Road (ORR) at an estimated cost of `2,860 crore and laying of radial mains along the radial roads covering 240 km at an expense of `1,040 crore.

The proposed circular pressure main along the ORR would connect all the individual source transmission mains coming to ORR location and will facilitate inter-transfer of water from one source to another through the proposed radial mains thus providing water to all hydraulic zones in the city.

Pipes with a diameter of 2,600 mm will be laid along the ORR covering a distance of 160 km installing air valves scour valves and line valves according to the requirement. A pipeline with diameter ranging from 900 to 1,200 mm diameter will be laid along the Radial road covering a distance of 240 km to distribute water to various storage reservoirs and balancing reservoirs.HMWS&SB officials said that they have discussed three funding options with the French delegation. This include build own, operate and transfer and annuity model in which an agreed amount will be paid per annum for a fixed repayment period.
