HYDERABAD:Scores of passengers and driver of an RTC bus had a narrow escape after a semi low-floor Metro Express bus went up in flames at the busy Parade Ground junction here on Thursday.

The incident occurred at around 8.30 a.m. when the Metro Express bus was on its way to Secunderabad from Jeedimetla. The bus suddenly stopped near Parade Grounds and the driver noticed smoke emanating from the engine and immediately fire erupted engulfing the front portion of the bus, police said.  The driver immediately alerted the passengers, and got down the bus, averting a major tragedy. A fire engine rushed to the spot and dowsed the flames. This led to a major traffic  on the busy road. Telangana State Disaster Response and Fire Services was alerted which rushed a fire engine to the spot.

“When the driver used self-start, it developed some heat resulting in sparks. There were no casualties,” P Komaraiah, RTC Secunderabad regional manager, said.
