Centre to Set up Four Science Cities Across Country

HYDERABAD: The Centre is planning to establish four science cities across the country to develop research facilities in science and technology, Union Minister of State for Science and Technology Y S Chowdary said here on Sunday.

The science cities would be built in four different zones consisting of more than three states each, he added.

Ahead of National Science Day on February 28, the Union Government is planning to organise grand celebrations across the country in the memory of Nobel laureate C V Raman.

The Minister said a proposal for the celebrations had already been sent to the Union Cabinet and further details would be announced soon.

While interacting with newsmen at his residence here, Chowdary revealed plans to develop the existing infrastructure in science institutes and to boost research activities across the country. According to him, the government is planning to develop science labs in schools which are lying neglected due to lack of funds. Under the new project, the government is planning to provide funds to add new equipment and renovate the labs.
