Monster Stalker Stabs Sisters to Death

Assailant knifed Sree Lekha 17 times and Yamini 10 times; both succumbed to injuries in hospital; five teams formed to nab accused.

HYDERABAD: Dejected over continued rejection, a stalker turned maniac stabbed the girl who spurned his love along with her elder sister to death at Kothapet on Tuesday.

The incident took place at 8.45 a.m, when the accused Amit Singh (21) reached the girl Sree Lekha’s house at Commercial Tax Colony after the parents left for work.The victims, Singireddy Yamini Saraswati and Singireddy Sree Lekha received 17 and 10 stabs respectively in the brutal assault.

Neighbours who noticed the incident took them to a nearby hospital where they succumbed to injuries.

Yamini (22) had completed her B.Tech last year and was preparing for bank recruitment tests.

Her younger sister Sree Lekha (21) was pursuing final year B.Tech. Sree Lekha knew the accused Amit Singh from her intermediate days at Viswa Bharathi Junior College in Shadnagar, Police said.

After the sisters moved to Hyderabad for better educational prospects, the accused too moved into the city and joined a diploma course in Web Designing in the city. The accused is a native of Bihar and has been living in Shadnagar with parents for last 15 years.  

The victims’ mother Hymavathi, a senior assistant at Rajiv Vidya Mission in Shadnagar, told police that Amit Singh has been stalking her daughter for over two years and that she has already complained to his parents about the same.

The bictims’ father Krishna Reddy is an RTC bus conducter in Chevalla.

According to police, Amit reached the house at 8.45 a.m. armed with a utility knife. He picked up an argument with the two sisters and in fit of rage stabbed Sree Lekha multiple times. As Sree Lekha collapsed near the front door, Yamini rushed to the tenants on the first floor for help.

The assailant then chased her up the staircase and stabbed her repeatedly. On hearing the screams, Ranjith Kumar, his sister Divya and her husband Suresh rushed out as Amit Singh fled the scene.

"Amit entered their house with a knife and attacked Sree Lekha, when Yamini tried to stop him. He stabbed her several times on stomach and then attacked Sree Lekha. Neighbours noticed and rushed the victims to hospital, while the attacker fled," said LB Nagar DCP Tafseer Iqbal.

Chaitanyapuri Police registered a murder case. Five teams were formed to nab the accused.

Cold-blooded murder

According to one version, Amit Singh and Sree Lekha got married last year and that the couple visited his native place in Bihar. But her parents brought her back. A lot of pressure was put on her by parents who cited the plight of her unmarried elder sister. She is learnt to have decided to wait until the elder sister’s marriage and did not visit him. She was ignoring him for her family. However, Police sources have neither confirmed nor denied this.
