HYDERABAD: The state government on Wednesday accorded permission to the GHMC for purchasing 4 lakh domestic garbage bins and distributing the same to households in GHMC limits. The government accorded administrative sanction for `41.40 crore for the same. The bins will be purchased after calling tenders.
The bins will be used for segregating dry MSW (non-biodegradable/recyclable waste) and wet MSW (bio-degradable waste) at source level i.e., at household level, which is mandatory as per the Municipal Solid (M&H) Rules, 2000.
The bin size should be 12 to 15 litres capacity for a family of five and it is proposed to supply two bins - one each of green and blue colour - to each house to segregate wet and dry waste respectively. The cost of each bin will be around Rs 94 and the amount will be spent from the GHMC funds.
