Land Regularisation: Telangana Government Undecided over Issuing Notices to Applicants

HYDERABAD: The state government is still undecided over serving notices to land regularisation applicants, who had actually applied under GO 58 but would fall under the category of GO 59 going by the criteria mentioned in the GOs.

Under the Land Regularisation Scheme,  applicants who own 125 sq yards of land but if their annual family income exceeds `2 lakh they have to shell out amount for regularisation - often running into lakhs of rupees.

Applicants of the notified slum have to pay 10 per cent of the total registration value of the land, whereas it is 25 percent for inhabitants of non-notified slums.

This being the case, the government is apprehensive of backlash from the slum- dwellers if notices are slapped against them forcing them to cough up lakhs of rupees. In face of a possible GHMC election this year, the government is weighing its decision whether it would be better if it goes ahead and bites the bullet, an official of the Hyderabad Collectorate said. Currently, the Hyderabad district administration has transferred as many as 6,250 applications from GO 58 to GO 59 category. Similarly, in Ranga Reddy district as many as 18,319 such applications have been transferred to GO 59 category.

“Although the notices are ready, we are still awaiting the orders from the government in case if it comes out with any new set of guidelines,” the official said. The argument of these applicants is that the government should relax norms further in terms of income limit as earning `2 lakh per annum is relatively lower in Hyderabad city.
