HYDERABAD: As many as 2.65 lakh house owners paid property tax by availing the opportunity of 5 per cent rebate offered under the early bird scheme by the GHMC. The civic body collected nearly Rs 166 crore up to 6 p.m. Thursday and collections may increase further as more people are coming to pay the tax. Around 20,000 paid property tax and an amount of Rs 17.23 crore was collected on Wednesday. The 5 pc rebate on property tax is giving good results, GHMC special officer, Somesh Kumar said. The early bird scheme started on April 1. Thursday was the last day for availing the rebate.
He said nearly 30,000 tax payers are likely to pay property tax to avail 5 pc rebate. As seen in recent past, only residential property taxpayers used to pay tax to avail the rebate but in last three days, firms like Income Tax Department and CMC too have come forward.
