Tank Bund Road to Be Closed for 15 Days

Nearly 350 Millions of Litres of water Per Day (MLD) of sewage and industrial water from Kukatpally nala would be diverted downstream through the 4 km Trunk Sewer Line.

HYDERABAD: Traffic is set to go haywire for at least 15 days as the HMWS&SB is set to block the arterial Tank Bund Road for laying a pipeline near Saidaniamma’s tomb to divert sewerage. “Though we have not decided the exact date, we will have to dig up the road and for that at least 15 days will be required to complete the work. During that period, traffic will have to be diverted. We are working on the modalities,” said a HMWS&SB official.

Once the pipeline is laid, untreated sewerage water from Kukatpally and Balanagar area will be released into the Kalasiguda nala instead of Husainsagar lake from July this year. 

This was disclosed by HMWS&SB Executive Director M Satyanarayana, who said the Ring Sewer Main of Kukatpally Nala will circumvent the Hussainsagar Lake and the water will flow into Kalasiguda Nala.

As Chief Minister K Chandrsekhar Rao is keen on cleaning the polluted lake, senior HMWS&SB officials are supervising the works and making serious efforts to the see that works are completed by July this year. 

Currently, the polluted water from Kukatpally nala is released into the lake, while the water from three other nalas is treated at STPs near NTR Marg Road and Munister’s Road.

HMWS&SB Director (Projects), M Konda Reddy, said that laying of Trunk Sewer lines will cost the civic body Rs 58.96 crore. They said that Rs 35 crore is being utilised from ODA loan assistance of JICA for Hussainsagar Lake and Catchment area Improvement Project.

The busy Ranigung Road near Buddha Bhavan would be closed for traffic for atleast 15 days for laying trunk pipeline. 

Trunk Sewerlines of 4 km costing Rs 58.96 crore have been divided into four segments and work is underway. The project would be complete by July, 2015.
