HYDERABAD: At a time when the city is facing severe water shortage due to depletion of water levels at reservoirs, trial run of the first phase of Godavari Drinking Water Project has come as a blessing in disguise for the city.
With the Hyderabad Metropolitan Water Supply and Sewerage Board (HMWS&SB) conducting the trial run of 150 MLD Master Balancing Reservoir (MBR) at Ghanpur near Shamirpet, about 25-30 km away from the city, path has been cleared for the city to receive Godavari water.
A few days ago, Water Board conducted the trial run of the water treatment plant at Murumur having a capacity to treat 735 million litres a day (MLD). A small reservoir as well as main reservoir works at Ghanpur have also been completed. Works on Ring Main-1 and Ring Main-2 from master balancing reservoir are nearing completion.
