HYDERABAD: In connection with the ensuing Bathukamma festival, the Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation has decided to create a festive atmosphere across the twin cities of Hyderabad and Secunderabad.

With the state government declaring Bathukamma as a state festival last year,  GHMC is gearing up to build  special Bathukamma Ghats at all the water bodies in  GHMC limits and to hold Saddula Bathukamma  at the Tank Bund and other water tanks on the last day of the festivities.

The festival focuses on promotion, enhancement and amalgamation of elements like women, flowers, nature, water and girl child which would promote the well-being of people in villages and towns.

Special arrangements will be made for a grand procession of Bathukammas on October 21 from LB Stadium to the Tank Bund in which thousands of women and women artistes from various districts of the state will participate.

Additional attractive arrangements will be made this year at Tank Bund by taking up beautification works. On important road stretches, special decorative lighting, including 3D lighting, will be taken up while at important traffic junctions models of Bathukamma, made of colourful papers, will put up.

Massive hoardings will be erected at important public places to attract tourists and others and showcase the Telangana culture.

GHMC special officer Somesh Kumar held a meeting with officials of urban community development (UCD), electrical, horticultural, health and sanitation and other wings here on Sunday to review the works. The meeting decided to form Bathukamma Action Teams (BATs) for successful conduct of the festival.

“The festivities should be conducted on a grander scale than last year by illuminating all important places and traffic junctions with 3-D lighting to suit the occasion,” he said.

Basic amenities like drinking water, lighting, security, bandobust, parking, traffic management, etc will be provided by the respective departments and wings.
