Cops Rescue Stolen Infant With Help of CCTV Footage

A duo stole a 11-month-old from a beggar to sell it for Rs 80k to a couple willing to adopt the child

HYDERABAD:Yet another crime has been busted with clues collected from the video footage of surveillance cameras in the city. This time a lorry driver who abducted an 11-month-old male child of a woman beggar by luring her with new clothes and footwear was arrested by the Abids police on Friday.

Deputy commissioner of police (central zone) VB Kamalasan Reddy said, “Mohd Younus, a native of Nizamabad who is living at Talabkatta here, promised his sister-in-law that he would get her a male child for adoption and collected Rs 80,000 from her for the purpose. He, along with his neighbour Mohd Riyaz, visited Maternity Hospital at Petlaburi and tried to buy a child but failed. They made a second attempt by visiting a Lambada thanda near Shaheen Nagar and paid some money to brokers to get a child but failed again. A few days ago, when they saw a woman, Mohammedi Begum, begging on the road holding her male child in her arms, they decided to kidnap the child.”

According to the police, the  duo approached the woman while she was begging near DRDL Crossroads and said that Younus’ aunt was sick and said that he wanted to distribute clothes to the poor, praying for his aunt’s good health. They took her to Kachiguda in an autorickshaw and bought some new clothes by spending nearly Rs 3,500 and won her confidence. Later, they took her to a footwear shop, gave her Rs 400 and asked her to buy some footwear. She left the infant behind in the autorickshaw and by the time she returned Younus and Riaz escaped with the child.

“When they took the child to Younus sister-in-law, she refused to take the child without any valid documents. Younus tried to sell the baby to some other needy people in Bodhan town without success. Finally, Younus and Riyaz decided to sell the child in Hyderabad and brought him back to the city,” The DCP said.

“The CC cameras installed on the Abid Road between Chermas and GPO captured the  kidnap. As the autorickshaw number was not clear, we traced around 15 autos and, on getting credible information, went to Santosh Nagar, nabbed the accused and handed over the rescued child to the mother,” Reddy said.
