Pedal with India

Cycling enthusiasts can participate in I Ride with India, that will see cyclists from across the country pedal in the early hours of September 6

Hyderabad has witnessed a fitness revolution over the past few years. Increasing number of marathons, running and cycling clubs, mushrooming fitness centres – yoga, zumba and gyms with qualified instructors are the proof.

If you are one of those fitness freaks who likes to indulge in various types of physical activities, or you like cycling, then it is good to keep yourself free on September 6 at 6:30 am.

I Ride with India, a cycling event is being hosted. It will bring cycling enthusiasts across the country on to the roads. It is being hosted by city-based cycling club, Cycling India that was started six months ago.

“We like cycling and we wanted to spread awareness about multiple benefits of adopting it and hence started the group,” says 24-year-old Shivam Gupta, one of the three founders. The other two are Jitendra Bansal and Manjunath. “Traffic congestion is the main reason that pushed us to do something more than just cycle to work ourselves,” adds Shivam.

The group hosted a few other cycling events in the past with the same motto – to spread awareness about cycling. My first 50 Bicycle Ride was the first one that was hosted in the city. “It was an event to encourage people to complete 50 km cycling,” informs Shivam, This event was followed by 500 + Cycling Challenge. “This event took place around the globe where people who sign up were supposed to complete 500 km in one month. We had 560 riders and the first three positions in the event were secured by Indians,” says Shivam. The maximum number of km recorded was 2900.

I Ride with India is being hosted on similar lines where the hosts will be coordinating with cycling groups with 100 cities as target in the country. “Currently, we have a 60 cities on board and will reach 100 by September 6,” says Shivam. The ride is also taking place in Norway and UK. “We have coordinated with cyclists from there. It is taking place on the same day,” informs Shivam.

People who have participated in the ride will receive an e-certificate from the group.
