Fluid Dialogue

HYDERABAD: A hint of silk and a flash of shimmer - that’s how designer Deepa Chikarmane describes her label Encrustd’s debut collection, Revolution for Fall 2015. Founded barely three weeks ago by Deepa and her husband Vineet Chikarmane, the brand’s design sensibilities cater to the modern woman. It’s elegant, and at the same time irreverent, says Deepa.

Having worked with renowned names such as Anna Sui, Diane Von Furstenburg and Alice + Olivia in the past, the duo returned to India from Canada, and then decided start something of their own. “Our customer is modern. She dons many hats, and has her finger on the pulse of high fashion,” explains Vineet, adding, “If you take a look at our collection, you’ll see really unusual pieces that are hard to find anywhere else in India.” A quick glance at the collection does substant iate Vineet ’s claims.

Anti-fit dresses, understated luxurious silk blouses with a touch of embroidery at the shoulders, and sophisticated black jackets with silver embellishments, paired with simple skirts in neutral shades, are only some of the clothes that are available with the label. For the conventional dresser, the black body con dress, with the intricately embellished neckline, or the two-toned dress with silver sequins covering the bodice and voluminous peach skirt in a classic 50s silhouette, is ideal.

Incidentally, the two don’t plan to set up a brick and mortar store any time soon. Which may be just as well for the focus will remain on their online store. Rs 4,000 upwards, on encrustd.com
