Hyderabad Cops Open Twitter Route for Grievances

Now, you can lodge a complaint or bring any law and order issue directly to the notice of Hyderabad Police Commissioner by a simple tweet.

HYDERABAD: Now, you can lodge a police complaint or bring any issue relating to law and order, directly to the notice of Hyderabad Police Commissioner by a simple tweet.

Henceforth, right from the Hyderabad police commissioner to Additional Commissioners and DCPs of all zones -- would be in touch with citizens on Twitter. The move comes after the police officials received mammoth response from netizens after they created separate profiles of each police station.

The Information Technology (IT) department of Hyderabad police has created official handles of Hyderabad Police commissioner, Additional Police Commissioner, Joint Commissioner and Deputy Commissioner.

Police Commissioner M Mahender Reddy on his official handle --  M.Mahendar Reddy IPS @CPHydCity tweeted:  ‘’Dear Citizens, to share with, to suggest us, to focus on to make Hyderabad a Crime Free City.’’

The Police Commissioner also stated that it is another platform for inviting netizens to share their views. Already @CPHydCity has 678 followers on his official handle.

‘’Creating handles for police officials and functioning regularly by tweeting will help us and public especially to prevent romour mongering. We created those officials police handles for higher officials from Police Commissioner to Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) initially. They will be active on twitter from the Ganesh immersion day. Some persons who have accounts on twitter have started lodging complaints on various issues,’’ said K Srinath Reddy, Inspector, IT core team, Hyderabad police.

Similarly, the Additional Commissioner of Police, Traffic, Jitender would also keep updating information to netizens through his officials handle --  Jitender, I.P.S. @AddlCPTrHyd.

‘’The traffic police will update all info such as traffic snarls that take place in different places, junctions and congested localities, guide the motor vehicle riders to take alternative routes. The traffic police will receive complaints and suggestions through  Jitender, I.P.S. @AddlCPTrHyd,’’ Srinath said.

Twitter.jpgOnce the police top brass is active on twitter, later, all police stations would also have their official twitter handle. For this purpose, a meeting would be organised shortly and lower rung staff will be provided training for the purpose.

Recently, Cyberabad Commissioner C V Anand too created his official handle on twitter CPCybd @cpcybd. In Cyberabad, only the Malkajgiri DCP R Rama Rajeswari has twitter handle (Rama Rajeswari IPS @rama_rajeswari) and is quite active on the social networking site, updating issues relating to law and order. in her zone.
