Subway Story

Most other metros have subways to help pedestrains cross the roads easily. Will it resolve Hyderabad’s traffic woes?
Subway Story

HYDERABAD: Traffic in Hyderabad has always been a curious case of less space and increasing number of vehicles. Regardless of how many flyovers and footover bridges coming up in the city, the woes of pedestrains continue to remain the same.

The best way to deal with a space where walkways and footpaths have disappeared, as per city planners, is to consider spaces above and below the main roads. This is where subways come into the picture. Most developed cities such as Paris, Venice, New York and Dubai have many subways and have been utilising this underground space effectively to help ease the traffic and keep walkers safe. Although Hyderabad has a few subways like at Sultan Bazar and RTC Crossroads, it has not been used and has become a haven for beggars.

Do you think we need to bringback the subways to the city? We examine the issues by talking to some citizens.
