It has been found that people who are suffering from depression grew up with mothers who also suffered from a significant depression.
Their chronic sadness becomes a dominant force in the child’s body and spirit. Interaction of a child with a depressed mother develops the body, mind and emotions of the child.
A child’s needs are very small. They need excitement and reassurance of happy eye contact, happy touching and holding. Do you still remember how the emotional tone of our mother influences our feeling and attitude towards life? A depressed mother
unintentionally provides negative energy and thus, a painful childhood to her children. The roots of her own depression- makes her emotionally unavailable for her children; she cannot see their happiness or longing for love.
Besides, children are hard-wired to absorb their parents’ emotional tone and basic attitudes about life.
We all came to this beautiful world completely equipped to love and be loved. But a depressed mother unintentionally contributes to the sense of loneliness, sadness and despair.
