HYDERABAD: Red Alluri is a man who is divided between , yet has a foot in both of them. Hailing from Telangana, Alluri finished his studies in Europe and set his based in London, this alt rock singer/ writer has made a significant splash in the indie scene with his album, ‘Man of Truth’. It grew so popular that many blogs and websites spoke about them which has presented Alluri with a unique opportunity to compose music for the

Telugu music industry. He will perform in Hyderabad for Bacardi NH7 Weekender on  November 6.
REDD Alluri is a quirky and unique stage name, the 29 year old singer said, “The story behind the stage name is simple. It was on my flight boarding pass. As they can’t accomodate many letters, it was simply printed as REDD Alluri and I thought it was something catchy,”. Inspired by his brother and podcasts of Ricky Gervais, his voice trails along the style of Edwyn Collins without sounding like a cheap impersonation or a knock off. His debut in Brighton was marked as a success because of his smooth and captivating voice.

His passion for writing songs arose in the year 2011 where he managed to pen down half the songs of his album in 2013, the rest were written in 2014 and the earlier part of 2015. The influence of maestros like the Beatles, Radio head and more can be clearly seen in his style.

Alluri says, “As Nietzsche said ‘Life would be a mistake without music’ . It was something that was always part of me. I have taken it very seriously. It is a tremendous source of joy in my life. I don’t remember a day going by without me listening to it and when it comes to writing, It  didn’t come easily to me. It took about 12 years of playing the guitar for me to start writing songs. Now it is just something I do. I was obsessed with the writing process and a couple of years ago that is all i was thinking about. Now my love affair with writing songs has subsided. It is on a lull.”

His experiences of live performances in Hyderabad, however, have produced positive reactions and his most memorable gig so far has been playing with a band in Jubilee Hills Club which had about 40 attendants at the most.

He concluded by saying, “My main focus apart from recording music next year will be playing live. For that I need to impress a few tour agents who will get me gigs. This can happen with practice and playing live more. Hopefully tour agents who come to the show in London will like what they see and give me more opportunities.”
