HYDERABAD: A 28-year-old housewife committed suicide here on Monday, leaving behind messages blaming her landlord.
Sujatha was found hanging from the ceiling fan of her rented house in Medical Society of Srinivasa Nagar Colony under Kukatpally police limits here in the early hours of today. Before ending her own life, she wrote with a piece of chalk on the walls, doors and cupboards of the house that she was committing suicide as her landlord Prasanna Kumar had b een harassing her.
"My houseowner is responsible for my death. He came to my house and assaulted me when my husband was not at home. He abused me in foul language. My death should teach him a lesson," she wrote.
Sujatha and her husband Ramakrishna hail from Palakollu in West Godavari of Andhra Pradesh. They lived as tenants in an upstairs portion of the house of Prasanna Kumar. They have a three-and-a-half-year old son and one-and-a-half-year-old daughter.
According to the neighbours, Prasanna Kumar and his wife Srilatha, who live downstairs, used to complain to Sujatha and Ramakrishna that their two children were too noisy.
On Sunday evening, Prasanna Kumar picked up an argument with Sujatha when her husband Ramakrishna was not in.
Ramakrishna's brother, who lives nearby, said, "The landlord abused my sister-in-law in offensive language. He asked her to immediately vacate the house."
On Monday morning, Ramakrishna came back from a visit to his native place and knocked on the door of his home. When his wife did not open the door, Ramakrishna broke in with the help of a carpenter and found his wife hanging from the ceiling fan.
Landlord Prasanna Kumar and his wife Srilatha are absconding. Police have booked a case and have begun an investigation into the incident.
