HYDERABAD: Receiving calls at odd hours is not new for doctors, but the numbers which are to be dialled only during emergencies, are now being used to harass women doctors. With eve teasers stooping to new low, women doctors, beauticians and others who have their telephone numbers on display boards are facing serious trouble.

SHE teams have arrested 138 persons for harassing women for making calls over cell phones and according to Additional Commissioner of Police, crime, Swati Lakra,  most of these numbers are jotted down from the display boards.

“People are taking advantage of technology and misusing the mobile phones to harass women in different ways. In the recent past, SHE teams have received a number of complaints regarding harassment of women over mobile phones. Stalkers are taking note of the mobile numbers of lady doctors displayed at hospitals, beauticians’ numbers displayed at parlours etc and are harassing them by repeatedly calling them at odd hours,” Lakra said.

Giving an insight into one of the cases that the SHE teams dealt with, Swati Lakra said,  “There was a guy from movers and packers company who saves the numbers of women customers  and start harassing them irrespective of age. Further, if the women are on WhatsApp, he used to send them obscene pictures and vulgar messages,” she said.
