Hyderabad Techie Regrets Height Gain Surgery

On April 5, Nikhil Reddy, who ran away from home with cash, was admitted at a corporate hospital to enhance his height.

HYDERABAD: He is 5.7’’ tall, but the comments by some of his friends that he would be a ‘hero’ material if he grows taller by a couple more inches made him opt for height enhancement surgery and now, he is ruing his decision.

Nikhil Reddy, the 23-year-old techie who underwent height enhancing surgery, started searching for methods to gain height on internet and found a hospital in the city which performs it.

He consulted the corporate hospital doctors for height gain along with his friends. So desperate was Nikhil that he did not even inform his parents before handing over ` one lakh of his hard earned money to the hospital management for the surgery.

Ten days after a team of doctors performed major surgery on both the legs of Nikhil for gaining height, the youngster now realised that he made a mistake by taking a hasty decision.

Nikhil told Express that he is unable to bear the pain in his two legs after the surgery. He is kept under observation by a team of doctors.

“I used to feel bad when my friends call me a short guy. Some friends encouraged me that if I grew few inches, I would look like Tollywood actor Nithin. These words might have driven me to get this surgery performed,” said Nikhil. 

Urging youngsters not to go for alternate height enhancing methods, Nikhil stated that the doctors told him that it would take at least seven months to walk properly. Till then, he would have to confine to wheelchair for a couple of months and bed rest. 

“It is very pathetic situation that I am experiencing in taking care of my elder son Nikhil who is completely bound to bed rest. We are happy that his toes are functioning properly days after the major surgery. If we sensed Nikhil’s decision, we would have never gave our consent. Hope, he will be normal by walking in few months,” said Goverdhan Reddy.
