HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) warned citizens of Hyderabad against dumping of construction and demolition waste generated by them either on storm water drains, nalas or on the roads.

Penalties, including seizure of vehicles used for the purpose, would be imposed by the GHMC enforcement teams. The teams have been deployed circle wise to check on such violation who dump demolition waste and debris in nalas or roads, GHMC commissioner B Janardhan Reddy said.

The commissioner also instructed the transport wing to deploy GHMC vehicles for collection and transportation of C&D waste from bulk generators. GHMC will collect user fee or charges at the rate `360 per ton. Establishing such separate system for C&D Waste will ensure that debris does not mix with municipal solid waste, he added.

GHMC has instructed all the five GHMC zonal commissioners to monitor the collection and the transportation system for lifting of claimed C&D waste from the bulk generators by linking the demand requests to the existing call centre number 040-21111111 and by including C&D waste lifting as one of the category in ‘My GHMC App’.

The C&D Waste thus collected through call centre demand or through My GHMC App will be transported and dumped at the above mentioned four locations for future processing of the same.

He said GHMC is committed to finding a sustainable solution for construction and demolition waste management in compliance to C&D Waste Management Rules 2016 issued by Central Government by setting up of a decentralised C&D waste plants at four identified locations, Fathullaguda, Jeedimetla, Kothwalguda and Mallapur.
