JNTU Plans to Expedite College Affiliation Process

Final guidelines to be issued by the end of Feb, to facilitate immediate process cycle.

HYDERABAD:  The process of granting affiliation to private, engineering and pharmacy colleges in Telangana is set to be accelerated this year. Considering the delay in commencement of the previous academic year due to the affiliation row, the Jawaharlal Nehru Technological University (JNTU), Hyderabad is now planning to issue a final copy of newly framed affiliation guidelines by end of this month.

In order to complete the entire process before commencement of new academic year, the university is now planning to issue final guidelines this month, so that further cycles of the process can begin immediately. Speeding up the process, JNTU has already prepared a draft of the revised affiliation guidelines and uploaded it on the official website of university for feedback from stakeholders.

The university has already organised couple of meetings with the managements of engineering colleges in this regard. The JNTU has called for another video conference on Monday, where the university officials would discuss the necessary changes to the prepared guidelines, according to a senior faculty member at JNTU. This is also an opportunity for the institute to understand the guidelines and improve their facilities accordingly, in order to meet the requirements, he added.

The process will be followed by the announcement of notification for affiliation schedule. However, the inspection of colleges for next academic year will commence only after the All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) announces its schedule for granting approval to proposals for new colleges for academic year 2016-17.

Meanwhile, the number of engineering and pharmacy seats is set to see a massive fall, even before the affiliation process begins for the next academic year. Many colleges have already applied for No Objection Certificate (NOC) to shut the institutes. Such institutes have also not submitted their proposal to the Telangana Admission and Fee Regulatory Committee (TAFRC), which sought details from them to revise fee structure for the next academic year.
