HYDERABAD: Junior doctors at Osmania General Hospital (OGH) called off their strike on Tuesday which will be resumed if security is not beefed up by Thursday, said P Vijayendra Goud, President, Junior Doctors Association - OGH Unit.
More than 500 junior doctors launched the strike after an elderly patient’s attendant attacked two female junior doctors and one duty doctor late on Sunday evening. A junior doctor was reportedly slapped five times, while the other’s arm was twisted and the duty doctor beaten up with a chair.
Soon after the attack, the doctors protested at OGH and affiliated hospitals. They boycotted elective services that affected patients on Monday and Tuesday.
Patients who needed intensive medical care were asked to go to Gandhi Hospital.
The Junior Doctors Association (JUDA) OGH unit members met with the Director of Medical Education (DME) to discuss the issue.
"We called off the strike temporarily. If security is not provided, we will resume the strike," said P Vijayender Goud.
Telangana's Director of Medical Education (DME) Dr Ramesh Reddy said that duty RMO Dr Moin Siddiqui was placed under suspension for dereliction of duty.
"We decided to take remedial measures at OGH. A decision has been taken to increase Special Protection Force (SPF)," Dr Ramesh Reddy said.
