HYDERABAD: The Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation proposes to construct multilevel parking facilities across the city in public-private partnership (PPP) mode.

Multi level parking facility has become necessary due to the ever-increasing number of vehicles and for more efficient management of traffic.

The locations identified by GHMC for development of multilevel car parking in the first phase include Old Pension Office, Khilwat (5,912 sq.yds); vacant Charminar RTC depot (4,033 sq,yds); Chaderghat-Nalgonda Crossroads (982 sq.yds); Chandanagar- Miyapur-BHEL (2,288 sq.yds); Lalapet (2,052 sq.yds); Doodhbavi near Railway Quarters, Chilkalguda Municipal Market (2,600 sq.yds); Shanker Veedhi, behind old jail (1,241 sq.yds); and Ranigunj, opposite Telangana Tourism (361 sq.yds). Some more places will be selected in the near future.

As part of the overall traffic and transport infrastructure upgrade, the corporation proposes to appoint a transaction advisor to assist it in the development of multilevel parking places.  GHMC officials told Express that the transaction advisor will assist the civic body in preparing a detailed feasibility report on each identified parking site, structuring the project in PPP, preparing bid documents, ensuring proper approvals and bid process management up to the selection of developers and signing agreements with GHMC for implementation.

The consultant has to examine the land use as envisaged in the master plan and related development controls and building regulations and advise the GHMC on any changes and special permissions needed for undertaking the project.

Different parking methods successfully implemented and in operation in the country, their investment and operation & maintenance cost for possible adoption in the city should also be presented.
