HYDERABAD: Three constables working in the Cyberabad Police Commissionerate in Hyderabad were booked after their efforts to earn quick money by extorting Rs 8 lakh from a woman carrying demonetised notes to the tune of Rs 10 lakh, landed them in trouble.

The incident took place on Thursday night in Madhapur, when the police were performing vehicle checking.

When the police intercepted a car and checked it, they found bundles of demonetised currency notes and finding it as a right opportunity to take the money, constables- Vikram Reddy and Pavan working in Madhapur, hatched a plan.

They called their friend, another constable Dhan Singh, who is working in another police station to come for the settlement. The trio threatened the woman that carrying demonetised currency notes was a criminal offence and they demanded Rs 8 lakh to let her go.

The woman in distress, rushed to the Madhapur Police Station and lodged a complaint against the constables.  Based on the complaint, Madhapur police booked a case against the three constables on charges of extortion and took the trio into custody for questioning.
