HYDERABAD: The beleaguered Deccan Park situated close to Qutub Shahi Tombs and the historic Golconda Fort, which was unused for last 15 years, has been revamped and will be opened to public from July 10, courtesy Aga Khan Trust for Culture (AKTC) and Aga Khan Foundation of India (AKFI). It is maintained by Quli Qutub Shah Urban Development Authority (QQSUDA).

The QQSUDA, however, is a defunct body gasping for funds. It was constituted for the development of the Old City through creation of infrastructure like roads, parks, heritage and storm water drains etc. QQSUDA had taken over the land from the state government in 1982 for development of the Deccan Park.
Spread over 31 acres of land, the park was developed in a 20 acre of land between 2002 and 2006.

It had existing recreational and entertainment facilities, musical fountains, swimming pool, chowki dinner shed, conference hall, boating pond, pool for children, facility for a toy train ride, view point open area, stage event, canteen building etc but the lack of funds and apathy has turned the park into a defunct park and was misused by anti social elements.

The park could not be opened due to court cases in High Court which were cleared in the year 2011 and delayed due to renaming of the Deccan Park.
