HYDERABAD: The anonymous online markets, dark web, which allows one to buy anything from drugs to arms illegally without being tracked, is giving a tough time to sleuths of Excise and Prohibition department investigating the ongoing drug case.
Reason: Among 15 people, who were caught for peddling narcotics and psychotropic substances, at least four of them used the dark net to buy drugs. The consignments of LSD blots, cocaine, MDMA, were being sent from foreign countries to home address of peddlers through Indian Postal Service and private courier services. The fact, however, remains that it is impossible to track someone based on activities on dark net.
When sleuths of department caught peddlers, they found envelopes shipped from Germany, Netherlands and other countries, which corroborated the thought that peddlers from Hyderabad were using dark web to get their stash for sale. “Till date, the only way we get to know someone has used dark net to procure narcotics is after they get caught. This cannot continue,” sources said. “Dark web is an issue for all enforcement agencies across India. It is important to know how we can end the channel,” sources in department said.
Meanwhile, pubs have been kept on close vigil during weekends. A peddler who was caught recently told Telangana and excise department that people who consume narcotics while pubbing, do it outside pubs.
