GHMC launches ‘Swachh Food Bank’

HYDERABAD: After introducing ‘Wall Of Kindness’ Concept in Greater Hyderabad limits allowing people to leave clothing, footwear, books or just about any household article for the poor and needy to pick it up, GHMC now launches another novel concept called ‘Swachh Food Bank’.   

Swachh Food Bank in an initiative of GHMC in collaboration with local food chain factories as well as hotels, restaurants and function halls to introduce a comprehensive ecosystem improving the efficiency of food storage and distribution to the poor and needy at Budvel in Rajendra Nagar Circle (GHMC Circle-11).

GHMC has tied up with manufacturers of confectioneries and biscuits in Kattedan, Rajiv Gandhi International Airport, Shamshabad and food joints to collect the food from them and distribute the same to poor and needy people. GHMC South Zone, Zonal Commissioner, Srinivas Reddy told Express that Swachh Food Bank follows three main steps, the first include collaboration with food producers such as hotels, restaurants, super markets, function halls to collect fresh and canned foods.

Biscuit factories in Kattedan has also come forward to provide export rejected biscuits due to faulty packing and food items like biscuits, chocolates  and bread from airport are also being received by GHMC. In the second step, corporation will provide operational support following process of food collection, packaging, storage and their distribution at the designated centre. For distribution of food, GHMC will work with staff and volunteers to distribute the well packaged within the circle.

Srinivas Reddy said many biscuit factories in Kattedan exports their products to various countries, while transportation, the packaged item gets damaged due to faulty packing and the product gets rejected and not fit for saleable despite the quality being good for consumption.
The main objective is that swachh food bank is that fresh food should not be wasted.
