HYDERABAD: After a day of high octane drama at the University of Hyderabad over setting up of a memorial for the Kargil martyrs, Saturday saw peace on the campus. While UoH administration is tight-lipped on the fate of the Kargil memorial, its spokesperson Dr Vinod Pavarala has said that “administrative processes, if any, will not be initiated before Monday, the next working day.”
On the occasion of Kargil Vijay Diwas, ABVP activists had set up a temporary memorial for Kargil martyrs on lines of “Amar Jawan Jyoti” in Delhi. The administration, upon finding about the structure not removed the next day, forcibly removed it. On the other hand, the student wing of BJP installed a permanent structure challenging the varsity.

Now, ABVP has issued a statement condemning the university action by calling it against national pride. The student’s body has said that their fight is not just for the symbol but also against the tendency to erase symbols and stop discussions on nationalistic issues. “It is a part of a nationally orchestrated move to eliminate any space for remembering and discussing supreme sacrifices made by our brave-hearts,” read the statement.

ABVP has also accused the administration of being selective in its action. It has also questioned the varsity on what it plans to do to instil national pride among its students and staff.
