Nallagandla park turns into dumpyard, KTR intervenes

Three days after the residents of Nallagandla vented their angst over the alleged illegal separation of garbage in the Rock Garden, a park, Minister for MA & UD KT Rama Rao.

HYDERABAD: Three days after the residents of Nallagandla vented their angst over the alleged illegal separation of garbage in the Rock Garden, a park, Minister for MA & UD KT Rama Rao on Friday took to social media, after taking cognisance of the issue. He assured them that he would discuss the issue with the Commissioner of GHMC.KTR was responding to a tweet asking him to intervene as the residents were allegedly threatened for voicing truth against the illegal dumping.

The minister tweeted, saying, “Not to worry (park being converted into a Garbage Transfer Station). I’ll discuss with the GHMC Commissioner immediately. Municipal administration needs people participation & support.” The issue of illegal dumping in the Rock Garden came to light after the residents’ writ petition was recently accepted in the State High Court. The judge commissioned an advocate to personally inspect the park and submit a report on the purpose for which the park is being used, within three weeks.

Residents allege, “The GHMC personnel, in order to show the advocate that everything is fine, worked through the night using mud to cover the garbage. They even built a pavement overnight along the GTS with more than fifty workers,” said Hirdesh Gupta, a resident. The GHMC has been moving the GTS in and around the area increasing groundwater pollution across the vicinity, he added. The GHMC official said, “Cleaning was not happening for a week and that increased the number of personnel to work,” he added.

Park has 4,500 plants
With 4,500 plants, the Rock Garden located in Nallagandla is earmarked in the layout as a tree park by the Hyderabad Urban Development Authority (HUDA) managed by the urban forestry division.
Of late, the GHMC has converted a part of it into a Garbage Transfer Station in the area.
