According to police, the woman Anthul Wase, had given her flat to TRS MLC Farooq Hussain nearly six years ago on rent. The NRI woman claimed that the MLC was paying only a meagre amount as rent and was unwilling to increase the rental amount yearly, which is a general norm.

She claimed that Farooq Hussain had even stopped paying rent in the past few months. He even threatened her brother who collects the rent on her behalf, as she lives in the US, the woman said.

On Monday, Anthul came to the city and went to her flat along with her brother. The duo met the MLC and asked him to vacate the flat as they wanted to put the property on sale.

“During arguments, the MLC started abusing the woman and her brother. The MLC assaulted the complainant with chappals (footwear). The MLC also declared that he would not vacate the place nor pay the rent, despite the woman warning him that she would approach the Chief Minister and complain about his party leader’s behaviour,” police said.

The entire episode was filmed on a mobile phone camera.  The woman and her brother approached the police and lodged a complaint against the MLC. The woman also submitted the video clip in which the MLC recorded abusing the woman.

Based on the complaint, police have registered a case under sections 504 (intentional insult with intent to provoke breach of peace), 506 (punishment for criminal intimidation) and 509 (word, gesture or act intended to insult the modesty of woman) of the Indian Penal Code.
