Excise official with Rs 5.5 crore in illegal assets arrested

The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials claimed to have unearthed `5.50 crore worth illegal assets from an Assistant Commissioner with the excise department here on Wednesday.

HYDERABAD: The Anti Corruption Bureau (ACB) officials claimed to have unearthed `5.50 crore worth illegal assets from an Assistant Commissioner with the excise department here on Wednesday. The ACB has registered disproportionate assets cases against A Srinivasa Reddy, who was working as Assistant Commissioner, Distilleries, Prohibition and Excise, Hyderabad. The accused officer was arrested and produced before a local court. The document value of properties is approximately `1.68 crore. The market value is estimated to be around `5.50 crore. 

Based on a tip off, the officials conducted simultaneous searches at Srinivas Reddy’s residence located in the city and at residences of his relatives in Karimnagar. “He acquired 15 acres of agriculture land, three independent houses and four house plots while at service,’’ said the Director General of ACB J Purnachandra Rao. It was revealed that the accused officer acquired properties on his name and his family members’ names.
