HYDERABAD: A team of Greater Hyderabad Municipal Corporation (GHMC) on Thursday inspected Walmart - India’s Best Price Modern Wholesale store at Shivarampally at Circle-VI and imposed `10,000 compounding fees for not using stamped meat from GHMC slaughter houses.

A three-member team of GHMC veterinary and health officials inspected and checked the meat samples and found that meat sold in the mall was not procured from GHMC slaughter houses and there was no GHMC stamp on the meat.

GHMC officials said that apart from selling local meat, they were found selling stamped meat procured from Nagpur. GHMC warned them of stringent action and directed them to procure meat from the GHMC notified slaughter houses.

Responding to the inspection, Walmart informed that food safety is deep rooted and an integral part of their compliance culture. “We strive relentlessly to provide safe, quality foods in our stores and therefore we have a well-developed food safety management system for assurance.

We continually work towards mitigating food safety risks, and collaborate with all stakeholders including suppliers,” they added.

“We follow stringent quality standards and ensure our suppliers have valid FSSAI licenses. We have shared the needed documents,” they added.
