HYDERABAD: City police registered criminal cases against in-laws of a woman for harassing her. The husband, an NRI, also harassed her by sending ‘Talaq’ messages by WhatsApp from the US. The in-laws were nabbed by police and produced before the court.
Later, the accused were shifted to judicial remand. As the husband is in the US, the police would take legal opinion to take action for sending Talaq messages.
The arrested persons are Mohammed Abdul Hafeez and his wife Syeda Kulsum. The victim Mahreen Noor (20), wife of Osman Qureshi, had lodged a complaint with the police stating that she was harassed by her husband and in-laws. Her husband reportedly sent Talaq message through WhatsApp and declared divorce.
The victim was married to Usman Qureshi in 2015.
Few days into marriage, her husband and his family members started harassing her. The Moghalpura police registered cases and took up investigation. During the probe, it was revealed that the in-laws had hatched a plan to kill the victim.
Police registered cases of outraging the modesty of a woman and attempt to murder against the in-laws.
