HYDERABAD: The Society for Employment Promotion & Training in Twin Cities (SETWIN) will start operating mini electric buses and autorickshaws soon to resolve the last mile connectivity issues being faced by metro rail commuters.

On Sunday, Aravind Kumar , principal secretary to the department of municipal administration and urban development, tweeted  that his department had been instructed by MAUD minister KT Rama Rao to introduce mini electric buses and autos in the city.

The official said in his tweet that his department was in the last stage of augmenting the transportation options through SETWIN. “These vehicles will be state-of-the-art green energy vehicles,” tweeted Kumar. The proposal to introduce 100 electric buses in Hyderabad was part of the Union Budget 2018-19, according to which the Centre will provide 60 per cent subsidy on the project execution cost across major Indian cities.

The contract for supplying electric buses to 10 Indian cities was won in February by Hyderabad-based Goldstone.
