HYDERABAD: Pankaj Sekhsaria, the city-based author and photographer, has captured interesting photographs of River Yamuna and the macaques in Marredpally bringing the two together in an exhibition titled 'The River and the Macaque: Nature of the city' ongoing at Goethe Zentrum Hyderabad.
The photographs depict the river-bed of the water-body which is a parallel narrative to the city's own Musi which was known for its sparkling waters but now has been reduced to a stinking sewage swamp. He's brought the juxtaposition of water body and animal kingdom together as his photographs clearly show the non-communication between humans and the world of Nature which is being quickly replaced with towering buildings and malls.
He says, "Our garbage dumps become food sources for fellow primates." He adds that the macaques might selectively consume what we discard, but the river can be more indiscriminate; what we throw away as waste into the river is what she eventually leaves behind for us!
Separated in time and also by geography, The River and the Macaque: Nature of the city presents two stories of Nature in the city… or perhaps, these are accounts of the city in nature.
