HYDERABAD:  Animal lovers, along with their pets, made a beeline for free vaccination camps set up across the city on the occasion of World Zoonoses Day on Friday. Indian Immunologicals Ltd (IIL) had organised free vaccination and awareness camps at over 100 centres across the country, including Hyderabad.

The free camp focuses on providing anti-rabies doses. Rabies accounts for more than 90 per cent of all zoonotic cases reported in the country. The dose has been produced by IIL. India accounts for a significant number of rabies deaths reported worldwide. It is caused by stray dogs which constitute 80 per cent of the canine population in the country. Owners of cats and dogs were seen registering and administering vaccine to the animals in the city.
