Seed stuck in baby’s throat removed

HYDERABAD: The parents of a 14-month-old girl had a gruelling experience for a couple of days when she suffered breathing difficulties.

She had consumed a custard apple seed which got stuck in her windpipe. On Sunday, the child was playing around custard apple trees along with other children. Though this is not the season for the custard apple tree to bear fruit, the kids found seeds scattered around the tree. The girl swallowed one of the seeds which went into her left main bronchus.

Her worried parents took her to Century Hospitals where doctors performed X-Ray and CT-Scan procedures and got to know the exact location where the seed was stuck. Chief CT surgeon Dr Hemanth Kaukuntla said endoscopy techniques with specialised equipment had to be used to ensure that the situation would not deteriorate further.
