RMP pays Rs 3 lakh after consumer forum rap

Though a complaint was filed, the uncle approached the help desk to sort compensation.

HYDERABAD: After a failed family planning surgery on a woman leading to her death in Medak, the rural medical practitioner (RMP) who has been evading payment of compensation has been put to task by the State Consumer Helpline Desk, an alternate consumer disputes redressal commission.

A compensation of Rs 3 lakh has been handed over to the kin of the victim. The incident occurred on March 20 when Santosha of Koudepally village in Medak approached RMP Prabhakar for family planning operation. But, the operation led to her death. The family members alleged that RMP’s medical negligence led to the death and demanded that compensation. Though a complaint was filed, the uncle approached the help desk to sort compensation.

On September 22, when the victim’s brother approached the desk, a complaint was lodged. And soon after those proceedings were held by sending a notice to the RMP. “After sending notice, we have ensured that `3 lakh is assured to the three children of the victim. The criminal prosecution is still on,” informed Naga Lakshmi, in-charge, State consumer help desk.
