Seminar held on DSpace digital repository system
KOCHI: The Hewlett Packard (HP) India conducted a knowledge management seminar on 'DSpace digital repository system' for academics from universities, postgraduate colleges, engineering colleges and research foundations, here on Friday.
The seminar focused on the digital repository solutions that included free open software DSpace jointly developed by the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) and the HP.
The solution is used for preserving all digital assets like books, teaching notes, project reports, question papers, research papers, courseware, NPTEL content, journals, thesis and seminar notes of an institution.
The multimedia format includes text, graphics, animation, video, audio and images in a single platform. The whole solution works on the network in the intranet format for concurrent sharing by multiple users.
Mathew C George, vicepresident technology, Team Frontline Limited, a partner of implementing the technology, said in the higher education sector, it had been made mandatory by regulatory authorities such as the UGC, AICTE, MCI and DCI to have digital repository solutions in the institutions coming under it.
This is a testimony to the quality education and research delivered by the institution.
The solution provides an enhanced teaching and learning environment inside the whole campus by empowering the learning fraternity by technology enabling them. All clerical workload of the teacher will be put on the digital repository system. He said there would be seamless integration of data available within campus and outside. The infrastructure will allow department and campus level controls authentication.
