KOCHI:For the fair and pretty Hansika Motwani, 2011 seems to be the luckiest year. Apart from debuting in Tamil with ‘Engeyum Kadhal’ and ‘Mapillai’, she has ‘Velayudham’ and ‘Oru Kal Oru Kannadi’ (OKOK) and ‘O My Friend’ (Telugu) lined up for release soon. Moreover, she has celebrated her 20th birthday. Ask her about ‘Velayudham’ and she replies, “I’m Vaidehi, a village belle wearing half-sari and plait always, who is comical but aggressive as well.” And she seems to be awed by Vijay’s performance. “My jaw just dropped watching him dance! Luckily, Brinda master gave me some easy steps to keep pace.”

She is very happy about being part of OKOK too. “There is so much comedy with Santhanam around that I’m always laughing in the shooting sets,” she says. Colleagues call her ‘thermacol’ referring to her fair skin colour! Hansika seems to have lost weight, but she shuns size zero, “I’d rather be fit than skinny!”

She knows that she is being compared to Khushboo in looks. “Kushbhoo called me after watching ‘Engeyum Kadhal’ and met me at an award event. She hugged me and told me to choose good scripts and stay focused on my work.” Recently, Hansika adopted 20 kids on her birthday to fund their education, but refused to dish out the details.

“I don’t know how word got out. From a young age, my mom instilled in me a sense of social responsibility. I prefer using part of my earnings for a good cause like this, instead of partying on my birthday.”

So what’s next? “I’m living out of a suitcase, shuttling between cities for shoots! Right now I want to do justice to the films I am doing,” she says.
