KOCHI: To boost its election campaign among the sympathisers of the party effectively, the CPM has decided to increase the circulation of its mouthpiece 'Deshabhimani' by 100 percent during a one-month period ending the poll date. Each booth committee has been asked to find 100 new subscribers during the period.
The party feels that increasing the circulation of 'Deshabhimani' will be the best way to take its campaign to the maximum number of people. “The only means for the party to campaign is through 'Deshabhimani'. So, increasing the circulation of the newspaper is important for the party to spread its message to the masses. That’s why we have decided to effect a sudden increase in the circulation of Deshabhimani during the elections,” 'Deshabhimani' chief editor VV Dakshinamurthy said.
The party leadership expects the circulation of 'Deshabhimani' to touch 10 lakh during the poll campaigns. If all the booth committees find 100 new subscribers each, the circulation will be well above two million. As the party local leadership has other elections duties also, it may not be able to achieve such a huge target. However, the party leadership hopes that the circulation can be doubled.
In some districts like Thiruvananthapuram, the party workers have already canvassed more subscribers for the newspaper. According to the plans, the circulation of the daily in Kochi will be increased to two lakh. Now, the circulation of the party mouthpiece across the state is around four-and-a-half lakh.
As the 'Deshabhimani' has two printing presses in the editions except Malappuram, there may not be much problem in printing double or triple the number of the current circulation, sources said.
