The students of Global Public School, Thiruvaniyur, were enthralled by the lecture-demonstration of classical Manipuri dancer, Darshana Jhaveri. She was performing as part of the SPIC MACAY programme in the school on Tuesday.
A noted exponent and research scholar, Darshana devoted her entire life to preserve and perpetuate the classicism of the Manipuri dance form.
She demonstrated how a simple hand gesture movement can have different connotations and how the Thandav (masculine) and Lasya (feminine) elements are conveyed through the dance. The eternal love of Lord Krishna and Radha took a metaphysical meaning through her dance.
Darshana explained the nuances of the drums and about the coordination of the drum beats and the dance.
