Nazir Ahamed murder: HC dismisses bail plea

The Kerala High Court on Tuesday dismissed the bail plea of two accused in the murder of former Malabar Chamber of Commerce secretary P P Nazir Ahamed. Justice P Bhavadasan dismissed the bail plea of V P Hirshan of Mambad and Binsad of Kothamangalam, sixth and seventh accused in the case.

The 50-year-old businessman was strangled to death in the vehicle and his body was dumped on the roadside on the Chevarambalam Road at midnight. The prosecution submitted that Nazir had maintained relationship with a lady, who is the relative of the first accused. “This was not to the liking of the  first accused and they wanted the victim to stop visiting the lady’s residence. However, Nazir continued to visit her house. This led to Nazir’s murder,” the prosecution said. Appearing for the state, Additional Director-General of Prosecutions K I Abdul Rasheed submitted that Binsad played a crucial role in the case. Since the investigation is on, granting bail to the accused will affect the probe, the ADGP said.
