Achieve excellence through harmony, says K Jayakumar

“To achieve excellence, one has to strike a balance between various forces of nature. For excellence is nothing but attaining harmony,” said K Jayakumar, Chief Secretary, Government of Kerala.

He was speaking at the inauguration of ‘Utkarsh 2012’, a two-day conference for principals held here on Friday.“As humans, we are often in a confusion. However, it is necessary for a principal to strike a balance, in his role as a teacher, leader and manager, in a harmonious way,” Jayakumar said.

He added that, often there is a clash between the weak and the strong forces, leading to an imbalance at the physical and mental levels. “A major share of controversies in the state have taken place because of the imbalance of the weak and the strong forces,” he reiterated. Urging the principals to create a relaxed atmosphere, Debashis Chatterjee, director of IIM-Kozhikode, said that it leads to a better and conducive work environment.

“Sometimes the ego gets the better of oneself. Only if a principal is ready to let his or her guard down and stop becoming obsessive, can a  better environment be created in the schools,” he said.
