2 more held in Paravoor hacking case

The Paravoor police on Monday arrested two suspected Popular Front activists on the grounds of hacking a hotel owner who was returning home from a mosque at Vaniyakkad, near Paravoor, this month.

The arrested are Kareem and Abdul Jabbar of Vaniyakkad, the 18th and 19th accused in the case. Earlier, the police had arrested 11 accused including the main accused Shihab, of Vaniyakkad, in the case.

According to the North Paravoor police, Abdul Jabbar entered into a conspiracy with the other accused to attack the hotel owner.

The two had been absconding since the attack. However, the police received a tip-off about the duo’s hide-out and zeroed in on them.

Nazar was returning home early morning after offering prayers at the Vaniyakkad Mosque when he was attacked by an armed gang.

He was signalled to stop his scooter under the pretext of asking directions to a nearby place. Six assailants then attacked him with swords and steel pipes.
