The test piling works for the proposed Metro project at the Vyttila Mobility Hub which began on Monday morning was later postponed owing to soil-related issues here.
The work will be continued after alternative measures are taken on Tuesday, officials of Era Constructions who have been entrusted with the task of the metro construction in the area said.
“ The soil in this area is very loose. We could only dig 13 meters deep. As the soil started collapsing, we decided to halt the work,” officials added.
The test piling work will be completed within two days. Later the report will be forwarded to the lab. As per plans, a metro station will be set up at the hub. Viaducts will also have to be constructed.
The test piling work at the hub was expected to begin a few weeks earlier. However, the heavy rains had delayed the work.
As the metro rail works will be taking place simultaneously along with the development of the second phase of the hub, a Memorandum of Understanding will be signed.
“ The Kochi Metro Rail Limited(KMRL) is undertaking work on our land. For this, we will be signing a MoU. Once the KMRL submits papers in this regard, they will be signed,” officials added.
Meanwhile, officials at the Vyttila Mobility Hub said a meeting to approve the pre-qualification bid will be held this month. Only once the approval is finalised, we can proceed with the tender procedures.
Officials have confirmed that bus traffic at the hub will not be hindered by the test piling work. The KMRL has been given two acres of land for integrating the metro station at the hub.
