Festival sales of Consumerfed through special Onam-Ramzan fairs across the state has made a total of Rs 123 crore.
Consumerfed president Advocate Joy Thomas and managing director Riji G Nair said that the subsidy sales of around Rs 58 crore and non-subsidy sales of Rs 10 crore were reported from 4,782 Onam marketing outlets.
The festival sales of Consumerfed began on August 1 with the Ramzan fair which saw sales of Rs 37.04 crore, including Rs 29.19 crore-worth subsidy items through 2,707 outlets. The special markets for Onam began on September 1 and continued till September 15.
The sale continued throughout the festival period at 154 special fairs set up at the district and assembly constituency levels where purchases worth around Rs 17 crore were recorded.
A total of 13 essential items, including four varieties of rice, sugar, coconut oil, green gram, Bengal gram, tuvar dal, chillies and an Onam payasam kit, were sold at subsidised rates through the festival marketing centres.
Thrissur district clocked the maximum sales followed by Kollam and Ernakulam.
From August 1 to September 15, Consumerfed distributed about 50,015 tonnes of rice and food grain.
About 3,750 tonnes of sugar and 2,500 tonnes of coconut oil were sold through the Onam marketing centres.
Other products were urad dal (1,700 tonnes), green gram (1,600 tonnes), tuvar dal (750 tonnes), chillies (1,750 tonnes), coriander (1,450 tonnes) and Bengal gram (750 tonnes).
It also earned Rs 25 lakh from sale of 15 vegetable items through 14 district centres at an average 30 per cent discount.
